New buyer enquiries 'on the up'

New property buyer enquiries increased in May, according to the
Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
The latest research from the organisation indicates that 48 per
cent of chartered surveyors reported a rise rather than a fall in
these queries.
Moreover, the average number of homes sold in the last three months
increased to 11.8 - up on the previously reported figure of
10.6.
It comes a few days after the Agency Express Property Activity
Index was published, which suggested that more people sold their
homes in May than at any other time in the last year.
RICS spokesperson Ian Perry said that the housing market has picked
up in a "material way" in recent times.
Some of the obstacles for the housing sector to overcome in the
forthcoming period include the uncertain economic backdrop and
rising unemployment.
Meanwhile, recent National Association of Estate Agent figures
indicated that confidence among first-time buyers has grown in the
last few months.
