Steps to take to safeguard properties for sale over Christmas
revealed

Homeowners who have just bought houses for sale in the UK have been
told how to safeguard their home over Christmas.
According to insurance firm Hiscox, there are some measures people
can take to make sure their properties remain protected over the
festive period, including putting in a gravel drive beside the new
home as these are "known to deter thieves as the arrival of
pedestrians and vehicles create noise".
It also recommended using automatic lighting in the house, which
activates between dusk and dawn, as well as having security lights,
turned on by movement.
Homeowners who are new to their properties have been told to place
physical barriers around the outside of the house to put criminals
off.
The insurance provider also recommended locking outbuildings or
painting over windows so that no one can see the contents inside
and fitted locks to any "vulnerable windows".
Austyn Tusler, home insurance expert at Hiscox, said that these
systems can go "a long way in deterring would-be
thieves".
